Sitemap: the list of your pages for Google
The sitemap is a file (sitemap.xml) listing all the pages of your site. It helps Google find all of them, including new ones.
Generating it
- Choose the protocol: Https (the usual one).
- Type your domain, without
https://or a trailing slash (for examplewww.mycompany.com). If you use a custom domain, use that one. - Click Generate.
Once generated, a link to view it appears, and the sitemap address is added automatically to your robots.txt.
Submitting it to Google
Go to Google Search Console, verify your domain and, under “Sitemaps”, add the address of your sitemap.xml. Google does not guarantee when or whether it will index each page, but this way it knows they exist.
Generate it again when you add new pages, products or articles.
